We have incorporated IBRA into our practice. We consider it a significant tool in order to assess the quality of the services that we perform.
Prof. John Kanellopoulos
Laser Vision, Athens, Greece

Laservision, based in Athens, Greece and founded in 2001, is an internationally recognized pioneer in clinical eye care and research. They are a global reference center both in technological equipment and in high-level medical care. The team of scientists at Laservision offer the full spectrum of eye care, from eyeglass and contact lens prescription to highly specialized screening examinations and treatments for patients of all ages.

Laservision’s founder and scientific director is highly experienced ophthalmologist Professor John Kanellopoulos. Professor Kanellopoulos has published many scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, written several book chapters, and is a Clinical Professor at the New York University School of Medicine.

Both he and Laservision believe that each patient deserves a personalized approach and the use of cutting-edge technology in providing him or her with the best vision possible.

Zubisoft, developer of the web-based IBRA Digital Health Suite of software, also aims to provide the best possible outcomes for patients. IBRA is designed to support refractive surgeons in reaching the highest standards of eye care by analysing and improving refractive and visual outcomes on a patient-individual basis.

“We consider it a significant tool”

True to his pioneering spirit, Professor Kanellopoulos introduced IBRA to Laservision’s practice back in 2011. “We consider it a significant tool in order to assess the quality of the services that we perform and be able to adjust that, through nomograms in the future,” he says. It has become an invaluable tool for monitoring consistently high-quality service: “The first benefit is the very detailed quality assurance for our center…. both on our esoteric level, internal review, as well as maintaining our ISO certification.”

Surgeons at Laservision are able to optimize the treatment plan by incorporating IBRA’s references and surgeon-specific nomogram support into Laservision’s personalized approach. IBRA uses an advanced nomogram algorithm, with up to nine different parameters and polynomial regression analyses, to calculate the most accurate nomogram refraction for WaveLight, VISX, Schwind, Technolas, NIDEK, and ZEISS excimer lasers.

“The second area that we find extremely helpful, is its ability to demonstrate to us any nomogram adjustment that we need to perform, as far as the laser or the femtosecond flaps and cataract surgery astigmatic changes…. we use four different laser platforms and two different femtosecond platforms, as well as four different microkeratomes.”

Zubisoft has continued to add new and innovative features to IBRA. A particular favourite of Professor Kanellopoulos is one that’s unique to IBRA: the ability to compare a surgeon’s result with a reference outcome based on a peer group. He says, “Based on both a large database from other surgeons and our own database, IBRA suggests which correction should be carried out and suggests the percentage of success. This is extremely useful when discussing the benefits of surgery to patients”.

“We have been tremendously impressed with the simplicity of the program”

Professor Kanellopoulos and his team have the highest of expectations when it comes to diagnostic tools. They monitor new research developments and implement only devices or software that is technologically advanced enough to meet the changing needs of surgeons, always striving to provide their patients with the most advanced healthcare services.

The team behind IBRA has not only been able to stay ahead of other developers in their ability to create customized features but have also improved the ease of use of the overall system. Professor Kanellopoulos has seen the benefits: "We have had plenty of experience with other software as well as we have looked at several EMR software …. We have been tremendously impressed with the simplicity of the program, with the ability to access it from anywhere and add data. But more importantly for us, a center known internationally for very unique treatments and for very specific treatments, we appreciate the plasticity that the IBRA team has offered us to customize the data we import in our very different and specific surgeries that we do sometimes.”

“The safety and reliability appears excellent”

Professor Kanellopoulos frequently publishes his research and is a valued speaker at ophthalmology conferences around the world. He uses IBRA to visualize and present his results and data in a wide range of formats. “The graphics produced by IBRA when assessing the data are very eloquent. They become a tool of comprehension and aesthetics in any presentation and I do many of those in international meetings (over 60 per year!). So, having nice graphs and great statistics is pivotal, as well as publishing this work, which very often comes in hand. I have even been able to add graphs and parameters in my talks, seconds before I was on the podium. The internet accessibility to the program is spectacular…. the safety and reliability appears excellent.”

We at Zubisoft are proud to support Professor Kanellopoulos and his team at Laservision to achieve their goals. Our IBRA Digital Health Suite provides a reliable patient-oriented approach to statistically improve the visual outcomes in refractive laser eye surgery.
