IBRA® Cataract Services

Standalone application with advanced treatment planner and decision support system for cataract and refractive lens surgeons.

The treatment planner offers alignment support and residual astigmatism calculation for toric IOLs, access to a unique database with optimized a-constants (ULIB and IBRA), and premium IOL matching. IBRA can calculate surgically induced astigmatism and personalized a-constants.

Key cataract services:
IOL Treatment Planning
Treatment planning with the use of personalized A-constants and SIA, with calculation of the toric axis and residual astigmatism, and IOL power calculation (SRK/T and Haigis).
Lens Constant Optimization
Calculation of surgeon personalized lens constants (SRK/T, Haigis), presentation of IBRA reference lens constants and new calculation formula for patient individualized IBRA a-constants.
SIA & PICA Calculation
Calculation of surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) and post-incision corneal astigmatism (PICA) for the use with toric IOLs and research.
IOL Matching & Visual Need Assessment
Survey-based visual need assessment and unique algorithm to create a visual profile with a defocus curve of patient’s visual needs. Overlapping IOL defocus curve features and best matching of IOLs.
Premium IOL Outcomes
Tables and charts reporting on astigmatic changes and progression of visual acuities at different distances following implantation of toric and multifocal IOLs.
Patient Reported Outcomes
Quality of vision assessment (survey) with a focus on dysphotopsia in connection with premium IOL surgery. Subjective results meet objective measures!
Surgical Risk Stratification
The assessment and grading of operational risks in cataract surgery allows for better preparation and optimal matching of required surgeon skills in training hospitals.
Standard Outcome Reports
Charts and tables on visual acuities, SE and astigmatic results, with large filter section and group-to-group comparison, matching international recommendations (JCRS) regarding outcome reporting.
Document Management
Patient engagement with support of surgeon-specific treatment and consenting documents, emailed directly to the patient.
IOL and KPI Reporting (Corporate Services)
Fast reporting on usage of IOLs across multiple centers and surgeons, with overall a-constant calculation and presentation of KPIs for centers and surgeons.
Advantages of IBRA® for Cataract Surgeons:
More Success
  • Increased refractive accuracy with a-constant optimization
  • Better matching of IOL technologies to patient’s expectations with visual profiler
  • Higher Premium IOL conversion
Higher Productivity
  • Data Integration
  • Shorter consultations and better communication
  • More ‘first-time right’ treatments
  • Patient engagement with decision support
Benefits for the Surgeon
  • Save Time – Optimized chair time and prospect evaluation, simplified consenting
  • Smoother Consultations – Better understanding of patients’ needs and interests
  • Increase Revenue – Increased conversion rate of premium technologies
  • Integration and understanding of subjective and objective data
Benefits for the Patient

  • Decision Support – With the help of survey and profiles patients can make an educated decision
  • Better Care – Optimized match of lenses and technology with patient’s wish and needs
Technologies - Lens Constants:

Our team is tremendously innovative. We have developed industry-leading technologies and combined it with Swiss precision engineering to create the best possible products and services.

IBRA automatically separates and groups all IOLs used and calculates a personal a-constant for each lens for a personalized approach. Several filters can be applied. In addition, the following data is shown:

  • Optimal a-constants from ULIB (if available)
  • Nominal a-constant from manufacturer
  • Proprietary a-constant profile

The a-constant profile is a unique curve that originates in the a-constant calculation. It shows the accuracy of determination of the constant and gives an estimate on the optical quality of the intraocular lens (point of focus).

Technologies - Visual Profiler & IOL Matching:

The visual profile is the result of patient assessment, trying to better understand patients’ visual requirements and showing the effect of different premium IOLs on the postoperative visual outcome. The profile supports the surgeon and patient in finding the best matching lens implant, and it can lead to a higher premium technology conversion.

IBRA allows the collection of data after surgery to create a visual profile (defocus curve) and to compare the attempted outcome with the final outcome, thus closing the quality cycle.

Further, IBRA is unique in the way that it can collect and analyze subjective AND objective data.

Technologies - Risk Stratification:

We have developed an algorithm that calculates the risk of cataract and lens surgery for a range of specific preoperative eye and patient conditions. The resulting risk score can be used to allocate cases to residents according to training and skill levels. It also helps with informed consent and is a good indicator of what equipment might need to be on stand-by during surgery (e.g. vision blue).

The risk levels include:

  • No additional risk
  • Low risk
  • Moderate risk
  • High risk
